Isotopes cruise by 'Birds

Memphis, Tenn. - Albuquerque used a four-run sixth inning to beat Memphis 5-2 Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

Redbirds starter Blake Hawksworth cruised through five innings before the Isotopes offense caught up to him. Jai Miller led off the sixth by reaching on an error by shortstop Brian Barden before Andrew Beattie made it second and third with a ground-rule double. After a walk to Dallas McPherson to load the bases former Redbird Tagg Bozied grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run and put the Isotopes on top. Two pitches later Alexis Gomez gave the ‘Topes some insurance with a three-run homer to right field.

Chris Barnwell and Beattie each had two hits to lead Albuquerque while Dallas McPherson hit his fifth home run of the year with a solo shot in the fourth inning. Isotopes starter Chris Seddon earned the win after allowing one run on four hits over 6.1 innings. The lefty fanned six and walked three. Joe Nelson nailed down the save recording the final two outs.

Amaury Cazana-Marti led Memphis with two hits and a run scored. Hawksworth took the loss after giving up five runs, one earned, on five hits. The right-hander punched out 10 and walked two in his second loss of the year.

Memphis and Albuquerque will play tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. John Wasdin will be on the bump for the home team to face Isotopes right-hander Bobby Keppel.
