Scherzer Named PCL Pitcher Of The Week
April 15, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Tucson Sidewinders pitcher Max Scherzer has been named the first Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week in 2008 after two dominant starts to open the season. The righty struck out 18 in 11 innings of work while allowing just an unearned run in two starts to maintain a perfect 0.00 ERA. Max gave up just 5 hits and 2 walks during the outings.
Scherzer, the Diamondbacks 1st round pick (11th overall) in 2006 out of the University of Missouri, is the first Sidewinder hurler to garner award since Enrique Gonzalez received the honors in August of 2007.
The PCL concurrently named Salt Lake infielder Matt Brown as the PCL Hitter of the Week. The two awards winners squared off in the fifth game of the season. Scherzer retired Brown via groundouts in both of his at bats.
The Sidewinder will return from the current road trip on Saturday, April 19th to begin a 8-game homestand against Fresno and Tacoma. For more information on the Tucson Sidewinders please call 520-434-1021 or visit www.tucsonsidewinders.com.
