Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Loveland, CO) - In the battle of the conference leaders the Colorado Eagles topped the Odessa Jackalopes, 2-1, in a shootout on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. The loss drops Odessa's record to 16-4-3 on the year.
Ed McGrane was credited with the shootout winner as his round four goal trickled over the goal line after Joel Martin initially caught a piece of the puck in the save attempt. Riley Nelson also scored for Colorado in the shootout. Dominic Leveille was the only goal-scorer for Odessa.
Mike Ramsay opened the game's scoring with the first period's only goal at 8:28. The power play goal was his sixth of the season. Sebastien Thinel and Alex Dunn had the assists on Ramsay's wrist shot between the top of the circles. Odessa led after one, 1-0.
Jim Jackson tied the game up for Colorado with a power play goal midway through the second period. Jackson's one-timer from the right point slipped through traffic and past Martin to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was the only one scored in the middle frame. The two teams were tied entering the break.
The game remained knotted through the third period and overtime, before the Eagles took the shootout in five rounds.
Both goaltenders were spectacular as Martin finished with 26 saves, and Colorado's Andrew Penner stopped 31. The two netminders made a number of their saves on odd-man rushes and chances in front of the net.
The Jacks travel to Amarillo for a Sunday matinee against the Gorillas at 4:05 PM. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
