Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - J.F. Perras turned aside 43 of 44 shots and the Arizona Sundogs earned points in their third straight game, topping the host Amarillo Gorillas by a 2-1 mark Saturday night at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas. The Sundogs are 2-0-1 in their last three games.
Perras' bid for his and the team's second shutout of the season was snapped with less than five minutes remaining in the game as Amarillo converted on its sixth power-play chance of the game.
Forward Jason Beeman, who was in training camp with the Sundogs in early-October, netted his sixth of the year on a cross-ice feed from Stuart MacRae with 4:46 remaining in regulation.
Arizona opened scoring on its second man-advantage opportunity of the first period midway through the frame on Jason Visser's sixth of the year from Kyle Hood and rookie defenseman Nick Biondo.
Stationed at the side of the net, Visser redirected a Kyle Hood shot past Tuomas Lohtander to give his team an early 1-0 lead. Biondo picked up his first professional point on the play.
Kevin Gardner stretched the Sundogs' lead to two and moved into a three-way tie for the team's scoring lead with his eighth of the year with four and a half minutes to play in the middle period, blasting a slap shot past Lohtander low glove side.
Konrad Reeder collected his 11th assist of the season picking up a loose puck at neutral ice before dropping a pass to Gardner at the right circle.
Leading the Central Hockey League in shots per game, the Sundogs were outshot by the Gorillas, 44-26, Saturday night.
Arizona (7-12-3) finished 1-for-6 with the man-advantage Saturday while Amarillo converted once on seven power-play tries.
The Sundogs conclude a season-long six-game road trip tomorrow afternoon against the Tulsa Oilers at 3:05pm (Arizona time) in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Listen live on KDDL âCattle Country' 94.3FM, the Official Radio Home of the Arizona Sundogs, or online at www.cattlecountryradio.com.
Veteran defenseman and player/assistant coach Chris Bartolone will skate in his 1,000th professional game tomorrow against the Oilers and will be honored by the Sundogs in a pregame ceremony prior to the team's game against the Odessa Jackalopes on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
