Colonials Win, Will Play for Can-Am Championship

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials advanced to the 2010 Can-Am League Championship Series by beating the Brockton Rox 6-4 and winning the semi-final round series three-games-to-one at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield on Saturday night.

After posting a 4-15 regular season record versus Brockton and falling behind 1-0 in the series after a game one loss, the Colonials won three consecutive games against the Rox to eliminate Brockton.

Pittsfield's Scott Knazek (2-for-4, 2 RBI) deliver the game winning two-run single in the bottom of the third inning as a part of his two hit night. Third baseman Jason Taylor (1-for-2, RBI), Danny Bomback (1-for-4, RBI), and Donny Leon (2-for-4, RBI) each contributed an RBI in the Colonials win.

Colonials' starting pitcher Patrick Moran (1-0) earned the clinching win, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking-out five over five and two-thirds innings of work. Relievers Pat Bresnahan (.1IP), Rafael Lluberes (1IP), and Matt Lyons (1IP) all delivered scoreless outings out of the bullpen. Closer Juan Padilla (1) locked down his first save of the postseason, eighth consecutive overall, by leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

Rox starting pitcher Wayne Lundgren suffered the loss, lasting two and one-third innings allowing six runs on six hits.

Brockton right fielder Keith Brachold (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) smacked a two-run homer in the game while catcher Chris Grossman (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) and left fielder Mike Conroy (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) each had RBI double in the effort.

The Colonials will play the 2009 defending champion Quebec Capitales in a best-of-five game series for the Can-Am League Championship beginning on Tuesday. The location and times for the series schedule are to be determined. For more information visit PittsfieldColonials.com.
