Quebec 2, New Jersey 0
A second-inning two-run home run from C Pete LaForest (pictured) accounted for all the scoring in Quebec's 2-0 win over New Jersey Saturday night, completing a three-game sweep of the Jackals to move on to the Can-Am League Championship series, beginning Tuesday night against Pittsfield. New Jersey smacked nine hits including three doubles, but Quebec starting pitcher Karl Gelinas worked around the hits to deliver seven shutout innings. Matthew Rusch struck out four in the final two innings to pick up his second save of the series after closing out Game 1. Isaac Pavlik was excellent for the Jackals outside of his mistake to LaForest, surrendering just the two runs on six hits in 7.2 innings of work, and Romas Hicks struck out three of the four batters he faced in relief. Quebec outscored New Jersey 22-9 in the three-game series, and looks to begin their quest for a second consecutive league championship Tuesday.
Pittsfield 6, Brockton 4
Five of Pittsfield's first six batters knocked base hits, scoring three Colonials runs in the first en route to a 6-4 victory over Brockton in the fourth and final game of their best-of-five series. With the win, Pittsfield advances to face Quebec in the Can-Am League Championship Series, beginning Tuesday night. The Rox struck back in the second with a two-run homer from Keith Brachold, his third of the series, but the Colonials came right back with another three in the third to push the score to 6-2. Jimmer Kennedy gave the Rox a chance to get back in the game with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out four. They grabbed two in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Chris Grossman and Mike Conroy, but ultimately couldn't solve the Pittsfield bullpen, which allowed just three baserunners in the final 3.1 innings. Patrick Moran surrendered the four Rox runs over his 5.2 innings of work to collect the victory, and Juan Padilla worked out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the ninth to pick up the save. Pittsfield was just 4-15 against Brockton in the regular season, but took 3 of 4 to advance to the finals, outscoring the Rox 28-19.
