Colonials Sputter in 11-2 Loss to Worcester

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials fell to the Worcester Tornadoes 11-2 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, MA on Tuesday night.

Colonials' starter Jonny Venters (1-1) took the loss over three and two-thirds innings allowing six earned runs on five hits, four walks, and four strike-outs. The Colonials bullpen was taxed for five earned runs charged to a combination of four relievers.

Pittsfield right fielder Dan Carte (3-for-5, 3B) enjoyed a three hit performance for the Colonials while designated hitter Rafael Cabreja (1-for-3, HR) blasted a solo home run, his seventh of the season.

Tornadoes' starting pitcher Chris Farley (6-6) earned his third win over the Colonials this season going five innings while allowing one run on five hits, five walks and four strike-outs. Reliever Matt Giusti (2) earned the save pitching the final three innings of the game allowing just one run.

Worcester third baseman Mark Minicozzi (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) led the charge with three hits including the game winning three-run homer in the top of the first inning for the Tornadoes. Right fielder Stantrel Smith (3-for-4, 3R, RBI) also registered three hits in the game, scored three runs, and added an RBI.

The Colonials will continue the three game set with the Worcester Tornadoes on Wednesday at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield for a starting at 7:05pm when righty Trevor Marcotte (4-3) takes the ball against Worcester's Zach Zuercher (0-2).
