Colonials Outlast Bears

NEWARK, NJ - The Pittsfield Colonials rode a 15-hit attack and a nine-run second inning to claim their third straight win, a 14-9 victory over the Newark Bears.

After Newark score five first inning runs, three of them coming on a Burt Reynolds homer, Pittsfield would come back with their biggest inning of the season a couple of frames later. The Colonials would score nine runs against Newark starter Chris Vasami. Among the key hits were a bases loaded double by Angel Molina, a bases loaded single by Jerod Edmondson and a two-run double from Danny Bomback to take a 9-5 lead.

Pittsfield would extend the lead in the fifth as with runners on first and second, Edmondson delivered his fourth hit of the night, a double into the left-centerfield gap to plate Chris Torres and Quentin Davis to put the Colonials up by six.

After the Colonials scores a run on a Torres groundout to score Molina in the sixth, Newark came back in the eighth with a four-spot, three of them coming on Ryan Walsh's fourth homer of the year to slice the lead to 12-9. Pittsfield would come back with a couple of runs on a single by Angel Molina to go back up by five.

The win went to Chad Paronto (6-5) who did not allow a run after the first. Chris Vasami (5-4) took the loss for Newark giving up nine runs in 2.2 innings, walking eight along the way.

Game three of the series comes up on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Pat Moran (6-3, 4.61) will get the start for Pittsfield against Kyle Morrison (2-0, 4.38) for Newark.
