Can-Am League Game Recaps
August 2, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
New Jersey 2, Quebec 0
In three at-bats, Jackals 1B Kris Sanchez had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning that gave New Jersey all the runs it would need to take the win over Quebec, 2-0. Working with a lead for all but the top of the first inning, Jackals starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik threw seven shutout frames and struck out seven batters while allowing eight hits. After Pavlik's exit, the Jackals bullpen pair of Jared Locke and Steve Fox threw two perfect innings to close out the Capitales. Pavlik's win was his 10th of the season to go against only two losses, while his ERA dipped to 2.30. Sanchez' batting average climbed to .274 after his 3-for-3 performance.
Pittsfield 14, Newark 9
The Colonials fell behind 5-0 in the first. But a nine-run third inning gave Pittsfield momentum and a four-run lead that kept getting bigger. Colonials 1B Angel Molina picked up a double in the third to account for three of his five RBI. Molina's 3-for-5 night was outdone only by leadoff Pittsfield RF Jerod Edmondson, who went 4-for-6 with two runs and four RBI. Edmondson also registered two of Pittsfield's five doubles. Newark's five-run first was powered by a three-run homer from 1B Burt Reynolds, one of two Bears batters with a round-tripper. Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
Brockton 8, New York 0
Working with a narrow, two-run lead, the Rox struck it big in the fifth, plating five more runs, the first score on an inning-opening solo home run from LF Dan Barbero. Bockton added one more run in the seventh to make the final 8-0. Barbero went 2-for-4 on the night with a run and two RBI. Four Brockton pitchers combined to throw a six-hit shutout, with starter Julian Sampson tossing the first five and allowing three hits on the way to his sixth win of the season. The game could have gotten far worse for New York if not for the nine batters the Rox left on base, two-thirds of them in scoring position.
