Valencia, Leverton July Players of the Month

DURHAM, NC -- The Can-Am League announced that Brockton Rox OF Chris Valencia and New Jersey Jackals LHP James Leverton have been named the Rawlings Batter and Pitcher of the Month for July. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League.
In 28 games, Valencia hit .420 with 50 hits, 33 runs scored and 27 runs batted in. He collected 11 doubles and five triples and stole 17 bases. Valencia's on-base percentage for July was .450 and his slugging percentage was .597. On the season, the Garden Grove, CA resident is batting .343 with 86 hits, 52 runs scored and 38 RBIs. Valencia is second in the Can-Am in runs scored, tied for second in hits and sixth in hitting.
The 24-year-old outfielder has spent his two plus professional seasons with the Rox and was just awarded Batter of the Week honors.
Leverton was 4-2 with a 1.90 ERA in six July starts. In 42 2/3 innings pitched, the resident of Flower Mound, TX allowed nine earned runs on 31 hits with nine walks and 31 strikeouts. Leverton has won three Pitcher of the Week awards and was just sold to the Florida Marlins. He had an 8-4 overall record with a 2.38 ERA.
The 25-year-old hurler was an eighth-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2008 out of Texas Tech. He spent his first three professional seasons with the Cubs before joining the Jackals this season.
