Colonials Nipped by Jackals 3-1

Little Falls, NJ - The Pittsfield Colonials fell to the New Jersey Jackals 3-1 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday night.

Colonials' starting pitcher David Qualben (0-2) suffered the loss in five innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits, four walks, and two strike outs.

Shortstop Matt Nandin (3-for-4, 2B) collected three hits including a double from the top of the Colonials' order. First baseman Jerod Edmondson (0-for-4, RBI) had the only Pittsfield RBI of the game on a ground-out in the fourth inning to plate center fielder Dan Carte (2-for-4, R).

Jackals' starter A.J. Wideman (2-1) earned the win throwing six-plus innings, allowing one run on eight hits, one walk, and three strike-outs. Relievers Edward Rodriguez, Mike Pontius, and closer Romas Hicks combined to each throw one scoreless inning to finish the game for the Jackals; Hicks collecting his league leading sixth save of the season.

New Jersey right fielder Kevin Clark (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs) led the Jackals' attack, notching three hits and two RBIs in the game. Center fielder Jeff Grose (1-for-4, 2R, RBI) chipped in with a double, RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases for the home team.

The Colonials will play game two of the three game series with the Jackals on Wednesday morning at 10am when right-hander Chance Corgan takes the ball for Pittsfield against New Jersey's Dan Griffin.
