Skyhawks Swept in Short Series

June 8, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release

Augusta, NJ - June 8, 2010 - Tuesday night at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park featured great starting pitching and even better bullpen work, but the Sussex Skyhawks (6-6) came out on the losing end. The Brockton Rox (6-6) came back from an early 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 and sweep the two-game series. Brockton starter RHP Mike Smith picked up the win, going eight strong innings to the tune of just one run on three hits and two walks. Sussex's RHP Mike McGuire was almost as good, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on six hits and three walks. He extended his streak of innings without an earned run to 17.1 before it was broken by C Chris Grossman's two-RBI single in the sixth.

Both bullpens held their opponents scoreless in the late innings. RHP Kevin Gunter threw the seventh and eighth for Sussex before giving way to RHP Duaner Sanchez in the ninth. Brockton's RHP Josh Papelbon closed out the victory in the bottom half of the final frame to pick up his third save of the season.
