Colonials Edge Closer To Playoffs

PITTSFIELD, MA - Pat Moran stayed undefeated in August and Peter Fatse drove in three runs as the Pittsfield Colonials downed the Brockton Rox 7-3.

With the win, Pittsfield lowered their magic number to clinch their second straight playoff spot to three.

The Colonials jumped on Brockton starter John Kelly in the first as they loaded up the bases with two outs. Peter Fatse promptly doubled to right on the first pitch he saw to bring home Jerod Edmondson and Billy Mottram for a 2-0 lead. Scott Knazek followed with a single to score Angel Molina and Fatse for a 4-0 lead.

Pittsfield would score an unearned run in the fifth and got two more in the sixth on Edmondson's 14th homer of the year.

Brockton got their runs on a two-run homer from Shawn Williams in the second and a Keith Brachold double in the ninth to score Dan Barbero.

Moran (11-3) picked up the win with seven innings of work, upping his record in August to 5-0. Kelly (1-1) took the loss for Brockton. Mike Zenko recorded the final out of the night for his sixth save.

Miguel Flores pitched 1.2 innings for Pittsfield, striking out two in the game, giving him 100 fort the season.

The middle game of the series comes up on Wednesday with Chad Paronto (9-6, 3.92) on the mound for Pittsfield against Dustin Birosak (7-1, 2.86) for Brockton. The game can be heard on WTBR FM and is scheduled for a 7:05 first pitch.
