Can-Am League Game Recaps
August 30, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
New Jersey 6, Newark 1
Jackals 3B Nick Giarraputo homered and scored three times to propel New Jersey to a 6-1 victory over Newark. Giarraputo went 2-for-4 and had two RBI. Starting Jackals pitcher A.J. Wideman struck out twice as many batters as he allowed hits, registering four strikeouts in seven innings. Jackals RF Bryan Sabatella led all players in hits, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. New Jersey scored two in the third inning and led the entire way, with the Bears' lone run coming in the ninth.
Worcester 6, Rockland 2
Tornadoes DH Nick Salotti doubled and went 3-for-4 with two RBI while his teammate, C Alex Trezza hit a two-run homer in the fourth, leading the Tornadoes effort in their 6-2 win over Rockland. The blast was Trezza's 16th of the year. Rockland 2B Cole Kraft went 2-for-3 and walked once while batting in one of his club's two runs. On the mound, Worcester starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa struck out nine Rockland batters in eight innings, allowing one run on six hits and lowering his season era to 2.87. Rockland CF Norm Hutchins joined Salotti and Kraft as the only three players with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Pittsfield 7, Brockton 3
Colonials leadoff hitter Jerod Edmondson went 3-for-4 and ended the game a triple shy of the cycle in Pittsfield's 7-3 win against Brockton. Edmondson, who doubled to open the game, scored the team's first run on a two-RBI Peter Fatse double in the first inning. The Colonials scored four in the frame and never looked back. Starting Pittsfield pitcher Patrick Moran threw the first seven innings of the game and picked up the win after allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. For Brockton, 1B Shawn Williams cut Pittsfield's 4-0 lead in half in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer - his only hit. But that was as close as the Rox ever got.
New York 0, Quebec 0 (Top 4 - Suspended/Rain)
The game between New York and Quebec was suspended due to rain after three innings of play. The game will resume at 5:05 Wednesday followed by the regularly scheduled game, which will be seven innings.
