Pittsfield Colonials News Release
RAMAPO, NY - The Pittsfield Colonials scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but came up one run short as the Colonials fell to the Rockland Boulders 7-6.
Pittsfield would start their comeback in the seventh when trailing 7-2 and with Peter Fatse on second, Rafael Cabreja doubled him home to make it 7-3. In the eighth, Johnny Welch led off with a double and moved up on a groundout. On ball four of a walk to Billy Mottram, Welch came home on a passed ball to make it 7-4. The passed ball became academic as on the first pitch to Fatse, the Colonials' utility man clubbed his second homer of the season to center to cut the lead to 7-6.
The win was not to be however, as Rockland closer Adrian Martin recorded his league leading 11th save with a perfect ninth.
The Boulders registered the first run of the game in the second inning when Ryde Rodriguez singled home Cristobal Santana for a 1-0 Rockland lead. The lead was extended in the third when the Boulder saw their first six batters of the inning all reach base, scoring five runs to go up 6-0.
Pittsfield would break the ice in the fourth when with Angel Molina on first base following a single, Billy Mottram smashed his fifth homerun of the season. The blast went onto the concourse in rightfield, clearing the picnic area beyond the fence. Rockland got one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame with an unearned run coming in on a bases loaded walk to put the Boulders up 7-2.
Jonathan Velazquez (3-3) picked up the win for Rockland with 6.1 innings allowing three runs. Miguel Flores (1-5) took the loss for Pittsfield.
Game two of the series comes up on Friday night with Chad Paronto (3-4, 4.22) on the mound for Pittsfield against Will Hassett (2-4. 3.74) for the Boulders. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show on pittsfieldcolonials.com beginning at 6:45. The Colonials return home on Sunday for a 2 p.m. date against the Quebec Capitales.
