Colonials Cap Comeback with Three-Run Ninth, Win 5-4

Chris Torres hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run rally for Pittsfield, defeating the Tornadoes 5-4 at in Worcester on Sunday afternoon. Chris Colabello had two homers in the loss, scoring all three of the earned runs charged to the winner, David Qualben.
Qualben pitched eighth innings on 109 pitches, striking out seven, walking two and allowing four runs on seven hits. Chris Rubio came on for his second save of both the series and the season, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Kevin Cooper got a no-decision in his six-inning start. The Worcester right-hander struck out eight batter, walked two, and gave up six hits. The only run he allowed was unearned.
Mike Gedman relieved Cooper and pitched a third of an inning, allowing a run, while Sean Gregory inherited a bases-loaded situation from him and kept it that way, getting two of the four outs he recorded.
Rick Asadoorian came into the game with two down and one on for the Colonials in the eighth. He retired the only batter he faced in the frame, Angel Molina, but gave up three unearned runs in the ninth.
Jerod Edmondson led off the last inning by reaching base on Chase Fontaine's second error of the game. Edmondson stole second, and scored on Peter Fatse's two-out, two-strike single to pull within one. Torres, the next batter, put Pittsfield on top for good with the two-run blast.
The Tornadoes lost the three-game set with Pittsfield and trail the season series 5-4. The New Jersey Jackals visit the HIP for a four-game series starting Monday at 7:05pm, with Worcester ace Zach Zuercher on the mound for the home club.
