Pittsfield Colonials News Release

WORCESTER, MA - Chris Torres hit a two-run homerun to cap a ninth inning rally, propelling the Pittsfield Colonials to 5-4 win over the Worcester Tornadoes.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the ninth, the inning got started for Pittsfield when Jerod Edmondson led off by reaching base on a Chase Fontaine error. Tornadoes' closer, Rick Asadoorian, was able to strike out the next two batters before allowing a single to Peter Fatase, which scored Edmondson to make it 4-3. Torres stepped up next and deposited a 1-0 pitch over the wall for a 5-4 Pittsfield lead.

It was the third time this season that the Colonials were able to rally to overcome a deficit in the final inning against Asadoorian this season.

Worcester got on the board in the first inning when Chris Colabello hit his 13th homer of the year, a two-run shot for the early Tornadoes lead. A Brendan Kelliher sacrifice fly in the fourth would score Colabello, who had walked to open the inning, putting Qorcester up 3-0.

Pittsfield got on the board for the first time in the sixth inning when with runners on second and third, Scott Knazek laid down a safety squeeze bunt to score Billy Mottram and make it 3-1. The Colonials added a run in the seventh when Mottram walked with the bases loaded to score Jermel Lomack and slice the Worcester lead to a single run.

It looked like the Tornadoes added the insurance run they needed in the eighth when Colabello knocked out his second homer of the game to make it 4-2 Worcester.

David Qualben (4-4) earned the win with eight innings of work allowing three earned runs. He scattered seven hits while striking out seven. Chris Rubio tossed a perfect ninth for his second save. Despite not allowing an earned run, Asadoorian (1-3) took the loss for the Tornadoes.

The Colonials will return home against Rockland on Monday at 7 p.m. Miguel Flores (1-6, 4.55) gets the start for Pittsfield. For tickets or information visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
