Cobras Suffer First Loss this Season 83-58 to Albany

June 13, 2021 - National Arena League (NAL)
Carolina Cobras News Release

ALBANY - The Cobras entered week three on the road against the Albany Empire in upstate New York. The game featured two unbeaten teams and was the first time the two teams faced each other in team history. Carolina struck first in this fight with a 30 yard passing touchdown from Sam Castronova to Kendrick Ings. The Cobras ended the half with 26 points with a receiving battle between Carolina's Ings (two-touchdowns) and Albany's Darius Prince who also ended the half with two.

Carolina's Castronova had a great night completing 21 out of 27 passes for 286 yards, seven touchdowns with only one interception on the night. The NAL passing leader Tommy Grady finished the night with nine passing touchdowns. The difference in the game was not in the air attack but the ground Carolina struggled to stop fullback Derrick Ross who rushed 18 times for 68 yards and scored two downs helping Grady and the offense put 83 points on the board. Despite Carolina's BJ Bunn and Kendrick Ings combining for 19 receptions for 284 yards and 7 touchdowns the Cobras defense could not slow down the Empire's offensive attack resulting in the 83-58 loss on the road.

Moving into week four, the biggest question mark remains to be on the defense, as Albany and Carolina both appear to be potential playoff teams with plenty of NAL games left in the season the Cobras will have to find a solution to the Albany aggressive offense. The Cobras enter week four for a much-anticipated opening home game on the horizon. The Cobras (1-1) will take on the Jersey Flight, June 19th, at the Greensboro Coliseum.Call 336-445-7273 to reserve your tickets now.
