Jersey Flight Still Searching for First Win After Week Three Loss to Columbus Lions

TRENTON, NJ - A second quarter that saw the visiting Columbus Lions reach the end zone four times yesterday was one of the deciding factors in a week three loss, as the Jersey Flight came up short against Columbus by a score of 49-15.

The two Flight scores both came from under center, as Flight QB Warren Smith Jr. first pushed forward for a two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and then broke free late in the third quarter for a 28-yard touchdown run.

For the Lions, QB Mason Espinoza went to a variety of targets, hitting several receivers for touchdowns, and also running in two himself on the goal line.

Following the game, DB Dwayne Hollis and LB/DL Nick Haag spoke to the assembled media. Hollis said that he sees the effort from his teammates, and he's hopeful it will translate to wins on the field as the season progresses.

"I felt good about us coming together and keeping the same energy throughout the whole game," Hollis said. "It's tough, especially after I got hurt the first play, I feel like I let [the team] down a little bit. We've just got to start from the drawing board, but the effort was there."

The injury Hollis was referring was something he described as a pinched nerve and he said it forced him out of the game briefly, although he did return to play shortly thereafter, and finished out the game.

Haag also said it was up to both sides of the ball to sort things out ahead of the next game.

"We've got to clean up the mistakes," Haag said. "So many little mistakes, the mental mistakes. We're killing ourselves right now shooting ourselves in the foot. We're working hard but unfortunately we're turning the ball over too much and letting too many scores in as a whole."

Haag continued, saying, "Collectively we've just got to come in, eliminate all the little things and the nonsense that we're giving up on the field and just work harder and stay focused."

The Flight will be back at home at CURE Insurance Arena on Friday, June 25 when they face off against the Orlando Predators. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m, and tickets are available at the following link.
