Rockford Lightning News Release

The Continental Basketball Association has announced that Rockford Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo has been named the League's Coach of the Month for the opening month of the 60th anniversary season.

While leading the Lightning to a 5-1 start and the top of the Eastern Conference, Coach Daleo is off to his best start of the season as the Lightning Head Coach. After taking over for Stacey King for the 2002-03 season, Daleo led the Lightning to a 6-2 record in November and averaged 4.4 quarter points in the process, both career highs for Daleo prior to this season. After a 5-1 November record and 4.7 quarter point average, Daleo is the first recipient of the Coach of the Month Award for the 2005-2006 season. The award is the third of his career. He earned two Coach of the Month honors in 2002-03 while picking up the CBA Coach of the Year award that same season.

Rockford posted a 2-1 home record and an impressive 3-0 road record. The Lightning have done well in close games by recording two-point, three-point, and two six-point victories. Rockford is second in the league in scoring at 115.2 points per game while it leads the league in field goals made (259).

Daleo enters the month of December with an 88-62 regular season record over four years as head coach. He is just one win shy of tying Mike Mashak at third place in all-time wins by a head coach since the teams move to Rockford in 1985, and needs just five wins to tie Charley Rosen for second. Daleo's 58.7 winning percentage ranks highest among Lightning Coaches.

Last season, Daleo led the Lightning to a 26-22 record and a spot in the CBA championship series against Sioux Falls. He also coached the Eastern Conference All-Stars to a 114-110 win last January. He was given his start in coaching with Kishwaukee Junior College in Malta, Ill., where he was an assistant coach. He also served as head coach and athletic director at Barat College in Lake Forest, Ill. Prior to his success at Barat College, Coach Daleo was an Assistant Coach with the Rockford Lightning for two years.
