Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Luis Mendez delivered a go-ahead, two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to lead the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers to a 4-2 win against the Midland RockHounds in the first game of a doubleheader Monday evening at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
In a 2-2 tie, the go-ahead rally for Frisco (35-25) began with a one-out bunt single from Kellin Deglan, who took advantage of a shifted infield and placed a ball perfectly down the third base line. The Riders went on to load the bases with two outs, setting up Mendez for the game-winning hit up the middle.
The starting pitchers for each side had nearly identical stat lines through five innings, but only one would last for a complete game. Right-hander Connor Sadzeck (6-2) threw all seven innings and picked up the win for the Riders, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out four. It was his second seven-inning complete game against the RockHounds this season, with the other coming May 19 in Midland. His only surrendered runs came via an RBI groundout by Tyler Marincov in the first and a solo home run off the bat of Matt Chapman in the fourth that gave the RockHounds (29-32) a 2-0 lead
Raul Alcantara (5-4) went 5 2/3 innings and took the loss for the RockHounds, allowing all four runs. Frisco got its first two runs against Alcantara in the fourth. Evan Van Hoosier's RBI groundout gave the Riders their first run, and a double to the left field corner by Joe Jackson tied the game at 2-2.
Game two of the doubleheader began at 7:35 p.m. Frisco left-hander Victor Payano (4-4, 3.94 ERA) gets the start and face off against Midland righty Daniel Gossett (0-2, 4.97 ERA). Fans can follow the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
Monday's doubleheader is part of an eight-day, nine-game homestand at Dr Pepper Ballpark that runs through Saturday. The homestand features giveaways and promotions, along with the first week of the Choctaw Lazy River being open for RoughRiders games. Tickets for future games during the homestand and throughout the season are available online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
