Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Alec Mills dominated the Arkansas Travelers on Monday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Despite the humid conditions and having not won a decision since April 12, the right-hander from Clarksville, Tenn. retired the first 14 batters he faced and 21 of the 23 on the night. Mills worked across 7.0 innings of shutout baseball and fanned a career-high 11 batters.
Arkansas (27-36) walked-off a winner on Northwest Arkansas (28-35), winning Game 3 of the four-game series, 3-2.
Mills dazzled through seven, utilizing his change-up and fastball command and set the tone early. The hurler struck out the side in the opening frame and fanned six the first time through the order. He allowed a bloop base-hit to Travelers' catcher, Jose Briceno, in the fifth inning and double to outfielder, Forrestt Allday in the sixth, but shut down the final four hitters, setting a new career-high on his final batter of the night.
Northwest Arkansas came to his aid, offensively, finally able to break through against Travelers starter, Jordan Kipper, in the fourth inning. Ryan O'Hearn clubbed his fourth home run of the season - second of the current series - to lead off the inning and gave the Naturals a 1-0 lead.
Mauricio Ramos doubled the advantage in the fifth, plating Logan Moon from second base, who doubled ahead of him and made it a 2-0 game.
Both O'Hearn and Ramos finished with two hits on the night, making it the third time this season both sluggers have amassed multiple hits within the same contest. Moon ended his evening with a two hits while adding his 10th double of the season.
Arkansas sliced the Naturals' lead to 2-1 in the 8th off Kevin McCarthy (3-2, 3.12) with a run-scoring triple and then won the game after back-to-back doubles in the ninth tied it. With men at the corners and one-out, a fielder's choice allowed for the winning run to score.
The road trip wraps up as the Naturals look to end the journey on a winning note. Right-hander, Jake Junis (6-3, 2.49) will hunt for his fourth consecutive win on the season, countering against right-hander, Tyler Carpenter (1-3, 4.91) for the Travelers.
