'Clones Rally Comes up Short, Fall 3-2 to Renegades

CONEY ISLAND, NY (August 4, 2021) - Despite clawing back late in the game, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, fell 3-2 to the Hudson Valley Renegades Wednesday night at Maimonides Park.

Win: Spence (4-2) Loss: Opp (1-8) Save: Craft (4)

Hudson Valley's Mitch Spence silenced the Brooklyn bats, going six scoreless innings with five strikeouts for the victory. The No. 28 Yankees prospect, according to _MLB Pipeline_, allowed two hits and two walks. Right hander Derek Craft earned the save, striking out Francisco Alvarez and Nic Gaddis looking back-to-back to end the game.

The Cyclones scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Hudson Valley deficit to 3-2, scoring on Ronny Mauricio's sac fly and Jeremy Vasquez's run-scoring fielder's choice against *Trevor Holloway. *

Anthony Seigler doubled and scored on Andres Chaparro's RBI single to left field in the top of the fourth, breaking the scoreless tie to give the 'Gades a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Seigler walked and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

NEWS AND NOTES

Hudson Valley has won 15 of 20 games in the head-to-head series this season. The two teams will play 36 games this season.

Cam Opp has allowed two earned runs over his past three starts, posting a 1.23 ERA in the stretch which covers 14 2/3 innings.

Jeremy Vasquez snapped his on-base streak at 22 games, going 0-4..
