INDIANAPOLIS -- Every Clippers' batter reached base at least once led by second baseman Josh Rodriguez, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, first baseman Wes Hodges, who turned in a 2-for-4 effort with three RBI and third baseman Jared Goedert, who posted a 2-for-4 mark with two runs and an RBI as the Columbus Clippers took down the Indianapolis Indians 6-1 on Thursday night at Victory Field.

With the loss, Indianapolis' record falls to 44-37, while Columbus improves to 49-32 on the season. The victory also gives the Clippers a 3-0 advantage in the clubs' home/road series and a five-game lead over the Indians in the International League West Division standings.

Columbus jumped out to an early lead as Rodriguez lined a one-out single to left, moved to second when DH Luis Valbuena drew a base on balls and came around to score on a base hit by Goedert. Hodges then came through with a clutch two-out, two-run double to deep center field to plate Valbuena and Goedert and give the Clippers a 3-0 lead.

The Clippers extended their lead in the fifth when Goedert ripped a one-out single to right and came plateward when Hodges laced his second double of the evening down the left field line. Hodges then trotted home one batter later to extend the Columbus lead to 5-1 when former Indians' infielder Brian Bixler roped a base hit to left.

Columbus tacked on another tally in the eighth as Rodriguez lifted a one-out single to left and came around to score on a two bagger by Valbuena. The Clippers wrapped up the evening having reached base 19 times, including 12 hits, six walks and a hit by pitch.

Clippers' starter Jeanmar Gomez (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO) allowed just one unearned run on three hits and struck out six over five innings of work to earn his third straight victory and improve to 6-7 on the season. On the other side, Indians' starter Jeremy Powell (5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 SO) was pinned with the loss to fall to 4-7 on the season after he allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks over five innings of work.

Relievers Jeremy Sowers (2.0 IP, 1 H), Josh Judy (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 SO) and Jess Todd (1.0 IP, 2 SO) combined to allow just one hit and one walk while striking out four over four innings of scoreless relief for the Clippers. Out of the Indians' bullpen, RHP Chris Jakubauskas (2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) allowed one run in 2.1 innings of work, before LHP Daniel Moskos (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 SO) and RHP Vinnie Chulk (1.0 IP, 1 BB) combined for 1.2 innings of scoreless work.

Indianapolis plated their only run of the contest in the second inning when 1B Brian Myrow drew a lead-off walk, stole second and came around to score on a Clippers' throwing error. Myrow also collected a base hit in the sixth to finish the evening 1-for-2 with a run and two walks and extend his hitting streak to six straight games during which time he is batting .470 (8-for-17) with six runs, one home run, three RBI and seven walks.

Indianapolis wraps up the four-game home/away series with Columbus on Friday, July 2 at 7:15 p.m. RHP Hayden Penn is expected to get the call for the Indians, while RHP Yohan Pino is the probable starter for the Clippers.
