
Gwinnett Wins Fifth Straight, Clinches Series Win over Toledo

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Toledo Mud Hens 4-2 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. G-Braves starting pitcher Mike Minor showed why he was named one of the top prospects in the Braves organization by Baseball America, striking out 9 batters in his Triple-A debut. Gwinnett (39-42) has now won 5 straight games in a row but remain 10.5 games behind Durham in the International League South division. The G-Braves will be going for the series sweep tomorrow night. Toledo (41-40) is now 8 games behind Columbus in the IL West division.
It Was Over When: With the game scoreless in the top of the third inning, Gwinnett scored 4 runs thanks to RBI singles by Wes Timmons and Freddie Freeman. Those were the only runs the G-Braves needed for the rest of the game.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Minor (1-0) allowed only 1 R/ER on 3 hits in 7.2 IP in his first win on the Triple-A level. Craig Kimbrel earned his 10th save of the season, striking out 2 in 1.1 IP.
At the plate: Freeman stretched his on-base streak to 21 games, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Josh Anderson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Timmons went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: Alfredo Figaro (6-6) allowed 4 R/ER on 8 hits.
At the plate: Will Rhymes and Wilkin Ramirez both went 1-for-3 with an RBI each.
On Deck: Gwinnett takes on Toledo in the final game of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. G-Braves LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (1-5, 6.38 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Billy Buckner (2-3, 7.62 ERA) of the Mud Hens.
