Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Rhys Hoskins sent the Threshers to their tenth extra-inning win of the season, bringing home Chase Harris with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th to boost Clearwater to a 3-2 walk-off win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
The win for Clearwater (10-3) was the eighth walk-off victory for the Threshers this season.
The Threshers had led 2-1 into the bottom of the ninth, before Lakeland rallied to tie it against Ulises Joaquin on back-to-back doubles by Raph Rhymes and Javier Betancourt.
Clearwater and Lakeland would remain deadlocked at two until the 12th.
Harris opened the inning by beating out an infield single, and with one out Carlos Tocci lined a base hit to right. The throw in from right fielder Jiwan James got loose on the infield, permitting both runners to move into scoring position on the error.
Adenson Verastegui (0-1) and the Flying Tigers elected to intentionally walk Andrew Pullin to load the bases for Hoskins. On the first pitch, Hoskins lifted a high fly into medium-left field, and Harris tagged from third as Rhymes made the catch.
Rhymes' throw was on target, but Harris raced down the line and scored just ahead of the tag from catcher Grayson Greiner, sending Clearwater home victorious.
Brandon Leibrandt took a no-decision in his first start back since being activated from the disabled list. The lefty tossed four innings and permitted just one run on three hits.
Ethan Stewart (1-0) earned the win after holding Lakeland (5-7) off the board through the 11th and 12th innings. Stewart allowed just a hit batsman in two hitless innings.
Clearwater and Lakeland will meet for game two of the set on Wednesday afternoon, with a 12 p.m. first pitch on Camp Day. Ricardo Pinto (2-1) toes the rubber for the Threshers against Locke St. John (2-7). The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 11:45 a.m.
