Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators and the City of Harrisburg are now putting Commerce Bank Park back together after weekend flooding brought on by Hurricane Ivan. The front office was allowed back on the Island Wednesday to see what the stadium looked like.
"Lots of mud, but no ice this time," said Senators Assistant General Manager Mark Mattern referring to the last flood to hit City Island in January, 1996. "There will be a lot of time spent just moving things, then the slow process of washing everything down."
It is believed that there was approximately four feet of water in most of the Stadium. The kitchens and club houses, which are guarded by submarine doors, had very little water and no damage.
"We are please with the way the facility held up, especially the clubhouses," said Facilities Manager Tim Foreman. "My biggest worry now is to save the playing surface."
The Senators' offices were still closed as of Thursday and it was still not known when the offices will reopen. Phone lines are open to leave messages at 231-4444.
