Connecticut Defenders News Release
The Navigators open the 2005 schedule April 7th in Portland and travel to New Hampshire before returning to Dodd Stadium for the Home Opener April 14th against the Reading Phillies. It will be the seventh time in 11 years the Gators have opened on the road, but the first time they have opened North of Norwich. It will be the third time the Navigators have played the Home Opener against the Reading Phillies, but the first since 1996.
The biggest change in 2005 will be a completely unbalanced schedule. Only one time in their 10 year history have the Navigators played such an unbalanced schedule - 1999. >From 1995 through 1998 they played 18 total games against Northern Division foes. From 2000 through last year they played 20. In 1999 the Gators played division opponents 17, 24, 24, 19 and 16 times; going 20-4 against New Haven to make the playoffs as the Northern Division runner-up (and still a franchise record for the most wins in a season against any team).
The day-of-the-week distribution is fairly even, with most of the games falling on the coveted weekend dates of Friday (11), Saturday (11) and Sunday (11). Game times will be announced at a later date. Gators.com will be updated with game times as soon as they are available.
