Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks won all seven games in their season series with the Chicago Steel, capping off the regular season match-ups with a 9-4 win Saturday.

Isak Tranvik scored first on a shorthanded breakaway, but the Steel answered during the same powerplay. Brett Barta and Tranvik pushed the Hawks ahead with powerplay scores before intermission.

In the second, Chicago cut the Hawks lead to one, but Tim Gilbert and James Marcou scored to vault the Hawks ahead by three before the third period.

During the final 20 minutes, Brett Olson, Blake Kessel, Jan-Mikael Juutilainen, and Paul Weisgarber all scored with two Steel goals mixed in. Nine goals is the most by the Hawks in a single game this season.

Waterloo currently sits in a three-way tie with Cedar Rapids and Omaha for the top overall record in the USHL.

A key match-up against the Lincoln Stars awaits the Hawks on Tuesday. The game is a rescheduled contest from February 24th, and all tickets sold for that date will be honored. The game was originally scheduled as a college night and college students with ID will still be admitted for $5. Plus, the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Black Hawks mini-stick from Casey's General Store. The game begins at 7:05.
