Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - With 431,954 fans coming out to see the BlueClaws this year, the team capped their tenth regular season at the Jersey Shore with their tenth South Atlantic League attendance crown.

The final attendances of 431,954 is 2,733 more than the team drew in 2009 and brings the team's total to 4,456,533 fans in 10 seasons.

"We strive for affordable, family entertainment and the tremendous fans of Ocean and Monmouth Counties have responded yet again," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "Winning an attendance title once is special. Winning it 10 times says we have the best fans in the country and we're very thankful."

The 2010 regular season was highlighted by an August 20th rehab appearance at FirstEnergy Park by Phillies star Ryan Howard. The team retired Howard's #29, making Howard, who played with the BlueClaws in 2002, the first former BlueClaws player to have his number retired by the team.

In total, 10,032 came out to see Howard that night, making it the second largest crowd in team history.

All told, the BlueClaws had 24 crowds which exceeded the reserve seat capacity of 6,588.

Fans this year enjoyed a steady stream of affordable promotions including Kids Eat Free on Sunday and Monday thanks to ShopRite, Senior Day Tuesdays, with Seniors eating free thanks to TD Bank, Thirsty Thursdays courtesy of PNC Bank Arts Center, with one-dollar beer and soda, plus fireworks on Fridays thanks to Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood.

They also enjoyed quality baseball, with the BlueClaws becoming the first team since 2004 to win both the first and second-halves of a South Atlantic League season.

They will defend their crown and look for the third championship in team history in the post-season beginning Wednesday night, with the first home playoff game on Friday at FirstEnergy Park.
