Augusta, GA - Augusta GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown was named the South Atlantic League's General Manager of the Year this morning, as announced by league president Eric Krupa along with a host of other league awards.

Brown has been the General Manager of the GreenJackets since 2003, making him one of only two front office employees to predate the current Ripken Baseball ownership. All told, he's worked 17 years in minor league baseball since his first job in the industry as an intern with the then-Savannah Cardinals in 1994. Brown was promoted to General Manager with the Savannah franchise in 1998 and he's been a GM ever since with three different teams, including his current stint with the GreenJackets. As any baseball front-office veteran knows, any individual honor truly takes a total team effort.

"It all starts at the top with the support and guidance we receive from Ripken headquarters in Aberdeen (Maryland), it continues with the execution of the front office staff and goes down to the gameday staff performing their duties which truly makes this a company award, not an individual award." Brown said.

Brown has accomplished many notable things throughout his years in baseball. In 2000, he set a franchise attendance record while with Savannah that stands to this day. With the GreenJackets, he's set attendance records in three of the last four years - and all during the current Ripken Baseball ownership structure. This season's attendance at Lake Olmstead Stadium was 201,760, a new record for the modern-era of professional baseball in Augusta. The league honor has afforded Brown a chance to reflect on the accomplishments of the franchise in the last few years.

"I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish in Augusta over the past five seasons and it appears the rest of the league has recognized our efforts." Brown said. "In addition, I am proud of this staff in the way they have accepted challenges. Their work ethic and growing desire to constantly improve truly makes this everyone's award and I look forward to sharing the honor with my staff."

As Brown acknowledges, the list of people that help him on a daily basis is large and he's grateful to all who contribute.

"First of all, I'd like to thank my peers for voting for me. It means a lot to know that other General Managers in the league think enough of me to honor me with this award." Brown said. "I also want to thank Jeff Eiseman (Vice President of Sales & Professional Baseball for Ripken Baseball) and the rest of the staff at Ripken Baseball for all the support and guidance they provide for us on a regular basis.

"Again, I'd like to share this award with my staff here in Augusta. It's a testament to how hard they've worked all season." Brown continued. "Most importantly, I'd like to thank my wife Stacey for all the love and support she gives on a daily basis. I couldn't do this job without the foundation she provides."

Brown resides in Martinez with his wife Stacey.
