Claws Top Suns 5-1, Take Two of Three in Series

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Rafi Gonell got the last 12 outs and four BlueClaws haf two hits in a 5-1 win over Hagerstown on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium.

With the win, the BlueClaws (22-28/51-69) took two of three from the Suns (24-28/54-68) after dropping the series opener on Monday night.

Seth Lancaster led the offense, going 2-4 with two doubles and two runs in the win.

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the second inning when a double-steal brought in Cole Stobbe - Seth Lancaster stole second on the front-end. Carlos De La Cruz followed with an RBI double to give the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead.

Both starters went five innings. Lakewood's Taylor Lehman (2-0) gave up one run on three hits while Hagerstown's Reid Schaller (2-3) gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out six.

After the Suns got a run back in the bottom of the third, Lancaster doubled home a run in the sixth off reliever Alfonso Hernandez to extend the BlueClaws lead to 3-1.

Lakewood extended the lead with two runs in the ninth. Ben Pelletier drove in Seth Lancaster with an RBI single and Jonathan Guzman added an RBI single to bring home Carlos De La Cruz.

In addition to Lancaster, the BlueClaws got two hits from Guzman, De La Cruz, and Pelletier. Pelletier has now hit safely in six straight games.

The BlueClaws head home to open a four-game series with Delmarva on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park. RHP Dominic Pipkin will start for the BlueClaws.
