Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that forwards Mac Faulkner and Marco Rosa have agreed to terms for the 2005-2006 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Faulkner, a 6'1", 205 pound native of King City, Ontario, played the last four seasons at Clarkson University where he served as the team captain his senior year. In 141 games played, he registered 33 goals, 50 assists, and 160 penalty minutes. His best season came his junior year, when he had 43 points in 40 games and was named team MVP. Over his collegiate career, Clarkson went 22-3-2 when he scored a goal.
"Mac is a big, strong, power forward with strong character", said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron. "He's tough around the net, and having been captain of Clarkson University, he has great leadership abilities."
"I'm really excited about playing for the Ice Dogs", said Faulkner. "It seems like a good group of guys there with good chemistry that should give us a team to compete for the championship."
Faulkner will be attending the Ottawa Senators rookie camp prior to joining his teammates in Long Beach.
Marco Rosa was originally drafted in the 8th Round (#255 overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The 6'1", 185 pound forward was a runner-up for ECHL Rookie of the Year last season while playing for Long Beach. One of only three players on the team to play in all 72 regular season games, he scored 34 goals, 31 assists and had 59 penalty minutes to finish 2nd on the team in points with 65. He tied for 4th in the league in goals, tied for 2nd in plus/minus with a +34, and finished 2nd among all rookies in points. His accolades earned him a spot on the ECHL All-Rookie Team.
Rosa was invited to the Nashville Predators main camp, though the Ice Dogs retain his ECHL rights should he be sent down. He becomes the first player of the Ice Dogs ECHL era to be invited to a main NHL training camp.
"This is a tremendous feather in his cap to be invited to the Predators main camp", said Cameron. "This is a great thing for him and this organization and we're very excited about it."
"I had a great time playing in Long Beach last season", said Rosa. "The hockey and coaching are great and it would definitely be fun to play with those guys again. Obviously my ultimate goal is to get to a higher level of hockey, but if things don't work out right now [in Nashville] I will be happy to be back in Long Beach and work on what I need to improve on."
In other news, rookie Luke Fritshaw, who was originally drafted by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 6th Round and signed by the Ice Dogs back on August 2nd, will be attending the Florida Panthers rookie camp.
Opening night is Friday, October 28th, versus the Fresno Falcons at 7:30 PM. Season tickets for the 2005-06 season are on sale now, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
