Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have agreed to terms with forwards Miguel LaFleche, Mike Ouellet, and Shawn Snider on contracts for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.
LaFleche, 25, enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign last year with the Rockford Ice Hogs of the United Hockey League where he tallied 17 goals and 48 points in 80 games to finish sixth on the club in scoring and sixth overall among UHL rookies. The Cryster, ONT native paced Rockford during the month of March with 12 assists and 14 points to propel the Ice Hogs into the Colonial Cup Playoffs. For his efforts, LaFleche was voted as the team's Most Improved Player. LaFleche recorded 31 goals and 52 points over a four-year collegiate career at the Ohio State University.
"Miguel is a solid, all-around player who we believe will contribute to our club in many different areas," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "Not only can he be an offensive weapon, but he's tough on special teams and plays with a great deal of energy every night. I think he's the kind of player who will build on all the good things that he did last year as a rookie in Rockford."
Ouellet, 23, netted four goals and 15 points in limited action in 2004-05 while playing for Quebec and Sorel-Tracy of the Ligue Nord Americaine de Hockey, formerly the Quebec Senior Professional League. The Cap-De-la-Madelaine, PQ native returns to the ECHL where he tallied 15 goals and 39 points in 2003-04 for the Long Beach Ice Dogs to rank third on the team in scoring.
Snider, 24, is reunited with RoadRunners goaltender Michael Mole, his teammate the last two seasons at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. The Fergus, ONT native combined with Mole to help the X-Men capture the 2004 Atlantic University Sport Conference Championship and the 2004 Canadian University Championship. Snider recorded 11 goals and 28 points in 76 career games at St. Francis Xavier following a prosperous junior career in the Ontario Hockey League in which he finished with 59 goals and 166 points in 218 games.
"In Mike and Shawn, we're bringing aboard two players who certainly have the capabilities to be everyday contributors," said Filion. "I've known Mike since he was young, and his numbers in Long Beach two seasons ago are certainly indicative of what he can do on a regular basis. Shawn's game revolves around speed and energy, but he also has a track record of being a prolific goal scorer."
Filion continued, "We're bringing in a lot of players with solid resumes, and I think it's going to create some good competition at training camp."
With today's signings, the RoadRunners currently have 13 players under contract for the upcoming season with 38 days remaining until the beginning of training camp on October 10.
RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information call (602) 462-GOAL, or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
