Clark In Lead For Old Navy Home Run Hero Award
May 1, 2003 - California League (CalL1)
High Desert Mavericks News Release
ST. PETERSBURG--High Desert Mavericks' leftfielder Daryl Clark smacked eleven homers last month and is the leader after April for the prestigious Old Navy Home Run Hero Award. The 23-year-old Clark has one more homer than Rob Stratton of the Albuquerque Isotopes. Jason Bay of the Portland Beavers, and Kade Johnson, Clark's teammate, are two back.
Old Navy will award the overall home run leader in Minor League Baseball with a trophy and $200 for each home run he hits during the regular season. A player's cumulative total will be used if he plays for more than one club. The Triple-A, Class AA, and Class A leader will receive a $500 Old Navy GiftCard, provided he is not the overall winner.
Last year, Ivan Cruz won the Old Navy Home Run Hero Award and $7,000 for clubbing 35 homers while playing for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.
Clark hit 19 homers in 93 games last year for the Mavericks in the California League and 21 for Beloit in the Midwest League in 2001. The Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 17th round in the 2000 draft out of UNC-Charlotte. Clark played third base and hit ..339 with 15 homers and 64 RBI for Ogden in 2000 and was named to the Pioneer League All-Star Team.
This is the seventh year that Old Navy has supported Minor League Baseball through its "At Bat" program. Old Navy donated $20,000 last month to various local Boys & Girls Clubs in conjunction with free batting clinics held by twenty Minor League Baseball clubs.
