Clark Earns First Win in Sweep Clinching 5-2 Carolina Victory

ZEBULON, NC - Joseph Daris tripled, doubled and drove in two runs, Isaias Tejeda hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth and Ryan Clark struck out five over six while earning his first win as the Mudcats clinched a series sweep with a 5-2 victory against the Red Sox in Zebulon on Thursday night.

Clark (1-10, 5.73) held the visiting Red Sox scoreless over the first four before giving up two runs in the fifth. The Mudcats came back with two runs to tie the game in the same frame and later went on to score a run in each of the next three innings while finishing their second sweep of the season.

Michael Kopech started for Salem and also held the Mudcats scoreless over the first four before leaving the game. He allowed just one hit, struck out six and walked three in his Carolina League debut. Kopech was removed before the fifth and reliever Yankory Pimentel was brought in with the Red Sox leading 2-0. Pimentel (6-4, 3.12) went on to allow four runs (three earned) on four hits over two and 1/3 innings and took the loss.

Daris was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBI in the game for the Mudcats. His triple in the fifth tied the game at 2-2 after it scored Jose Fernandez from first and forced an error by the Salem defense allowing Daris to score on the play. Fernandez was 0-for-0 with two runs and four walks in the Carolina victory.

Tejeda (1-for-3, HR) broke the 2-2 tie in the sixth with a solo home run, newly added shortstop Luis Valenzuela (0-for-2, RBI, 2 BB) extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Daris drove in the final run with a double in the eighth. Tejeda's home run was his second in two games.

Relievers Chad Sobotka and Sean McLaughlin finished out the game for Carolina. Sobotka stuck out three and allowed one hit over two innings pitched. McLaughlin worked through the ninth with one strikeout and picked up his fourth save.

The Mudcats walked 11 times on Thursday night and a total of 29 times in the four game series. Carolina was just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base in Thursday's victory.

Carolina finished it's eight game home stand at 4-4 after Thursday's sweep clinching win. They next play on the road in Potomac against the Nationals on Friday night in Woodbridge, VA.
