Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, CA -- The Stockton City Council approved a $113.5 million Waterfront improvement project on Tuesday, March 2nd, paving the way for a long-awaited new home for the Stockton Ports Baseball Club. The ballpark, with an estimated construction budget of $14.5 million, represents approximately 13% of the project's total cost.
"This is a great day for the City of Stockton, our community and the Stockton Ports," said Ports President and CEO, Tom Volpe. "New facilities offer new opportunities for cities and ballclubs, and we have worked side-by-side with the City and our architects to build a first-class facility with many fan-oriented amenities."
Demolition of the site is currently underway; actual construction on the ballpark will begin in late April, 2004 and is expected to be ready for Opening Night, 2005. Pending completion of the construction, the Stockton Ports expect to move into the new facility in mid-March, 2005.
"We are so excited the Stockton Ports play a significant role in our downtown redevelopment. The Ports have always lead the way in family entertainment, and the historic partnership between this franchise and the City grows stronger with each season," said Stockton Mayor Gary Podesto.
