Modesto swaps home dates with Oaks
March 3, 2004 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA â A twelfth Saturday home game has been added to the Visalia Oaks 2004 schedule, thanks to a scheduling conflict at Modesto's John Thurman Field.
Before the change, the Oaks would have hosted the Athletics for a four game series from Monday, June 14 to Thursday, June 17. Then a three game series at Modesto would have followed Friday, June 18 through Sunday, June 20.
However, a concert has been scheduled for Saturday, June 19 at Thurman Field, the home of the A's. As a result, the Oaks will play at home Monday and Tuesday June 14 and 15 and Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20.
The two teams will square off in Modesto three times on June 16, 17 and 18.
"This a minor change, but it should help more of our fans see the Oaks play this season," said Visalia General Manager Jennifer Whiteley. "It is unusual for this type of switch to happen so close to opening day."
There will now be twelve Saturday home games instead of the usual eleven such dates. The Oaks will now play only ten regular season Saturday games on the road. In 2003, Saturday home games drew more fans to Recreation Park than games on any other day of the week.
Bank of the Sierra Opening Night will be Thursday, April 8 against the San Jose Giants. The game will kickoff FOX 26 Opening Weekend and will feature a post-game fireworks display in addition to some pre-game surprises.
The New Look: Below is the rundown of game times following the June schedule
tweak.
Monday, June 14 vs. Modesto 6:35 p.m.
Tuesday, June 15 vs. Modesto 6:35 p.m.
Wednesday, June 16 at Modesto 7:05 p.m.
Thursday, June 17 at Modesto 7:05 p.m.
Friday, June 18 at Modesto 7:05 p.m.
Saturday, June 19 vs. Modesto 7:05 p.m.
Sunday, June 20 vs. Modesto 1:35 p.m.
Another Alteration: When the Oaks make their first road trip of the season to Stockton, the second game of a four game series against the Ports will come after an early wake-up call. For the third season in a row, Visalia will be Stockton's opponent for a 10:35 a.m. game.
On Tuesday, April 13 the Oaks will follow a 7:05 p.m. game in Stockton with the mid-morning first pitch. The game will feature a crowd full of grade school children hosted by the D.A.R.E. anti-drug program.
In 2002, the Ports' 10:35 a.m. game against the Oaks was played at Lodi's Zupo Field, former home of the California League's Lodi Dodgers.
