Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - The Canaries have agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Jason Cierlik on a contract for the upcoming season. Cierlik was 3-1 for the Canaries in 30 relief appearances last season. Cierlik was effective out of the bullpen, allowing just 19 earned runs in 34.1 innings pitched.

"We look forward to having Jason back as part of our pitching staff next season," said Canaries Manager Mike Pinto. "He is a reliable arm out of the bullpen, and he continued to improve throughout last season."

Cierlik finished strong in 2005, not allowing a run in his last nine appearances. In his final 7.2 IP he struck out nine batters while allowing only six hits. The southpaw pitcher began the 2005 season with the Schaumburg Flyers. The Canaries claimed Cierlik off of waivers on June 18.

Bird Seeds: The Canaries will hold their Second Annual Hot Stove Banquet presented by the Sioux Empire Baseball Association on January 21 at the Ramkota Hotel. New York Yankees legend Bill "Moose" Skowron will be the keynote speaker at the Hot Stove Banquet. ... Ralph Santana, whom the Canaries acquired from the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League on November 16, has signed a contract for the 2006 season.
