
Cats Ink Former UTA Infielder Welles

The Fort Worth Cats have signed former UT-Arlington third baseman Boomer Welles to a contract for the 2006 season.
Welles hit .340 in 38 games for the Mavericks in 2005. In 103 at bats, he belted three homers and drove in nine runs. He transferred to UTA from Oral Roberts University where he batted .257 in 34 games for the Golden Eagles in 2004, his junior year.
He played his first two years of college baseball at Glendale (Calif.) College and was named to the first-team All Western State Conference in 2003 after leading the team with a .348 batting average. He hit .304 in his freshman year at Glendale and was selected by Cleveland in the 44th round of the 2002 draft.
Prior to his time at Glendale College, Welles was the quarterback for Santa Monica College where he passed for over 2,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2001.
Welles, 24, set numerous career records at Beverly Hills High School were he was named All-Ocean League in baseball and football in 2000, his senior year. He was born in Los Angeles.
