Bob Flori returns as Sports manager

December 13, 2005 - American Association (AA)
Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

Bob Flori, who was the manager of the Shreveport Sports last season will return to Fair Grounds Field as the manager of the 2006 Sports.

The Sports, under Flori last season, started off the year with eleven rookies, the most of any team in the Central League, but went 28-19 in the second half of the season, missing the post season playoffs by one game.

"I really enjoyed Shreveport last season and I'm looking forward to the coming year as I believe we will have a more seasoned team which means a better club then we had last year," said Flori. "I also think by adding the four teams from the Northern League and having the five teams from the CBL which will now make up the American Association is a very positive move for everyone."

Flori, a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida, has been involved as a manager or coach in minor league baseball since 1992. The 59-year old Flori put his name in the record books in 1995 when he led Aberdeen (SD) to a 56-13 mark, the best record in minor league baseball history.

Flori also served as a coach in affiliated baseball with the Montreal Expos and Anaheim Angels organizations. He spent seven years in professional baseball as a player with the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs at the minor league level.

"I am in the process of talking with players now about either returning or coming to Shreveport for this coming season," said Flori. "With the facilities we have and the change in the front office, I look for nothing but improvements for the 2006 season," concluded Flori.

The Sports will open spring training on April 29th and the 2006 season on May 11th at Ft. Worth. The home opener for the Sports will be May 16th.
