CIBC Help Attack Sharpen Financial Skills
December 13, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack are better prepared for a successful off-ice future thanks to a recent CIBC course the team took to sharpen their financial skills.
Team players took part in the CIBC Financial Skills Program today which is specifically designed to help local hockey heroes across Canada become better prepared to successfully manage their money and finances in the future.
"Everyone knows the Attack score with fans big time when they are on the ice," said Stephen Forbes, Executive Vice President, Banking Centres, Personal and Small Business Banking, CIBC. "We at CIBC want to make sure they continue to score off the ice too which is why we developed this course to set them up for financial success no matter where their careers take them."
The program is part of the annual training camp for Canadian Hockey League (CHL) athletes and is delivered by local CIBC representatives across the country. The course is delivered through in-class and online sessions where the players get to complete a variety of activities, games and challenges such as a "Financial Shootout" and a "Budget Backcheck" as they learn about budgeting, borrowing and credit, among other topics.
"Getting to know the essentials about how to manage money will help these players if they make it to the big league or find another career path," said Forbes. "The course gives the players an off-ice advantage by giving them exposure to the financial skills and knowledge they need to help realize their financial goals."
There are about 1,500 active players, aged 16-20, in the Canadian Hockey League.
"We at CIBC love being part of the energy and excitement that CHL communities across Canada, including Owen Sound, show every year," Forbes said. "We're proud to be part of the passion that makes the CHL great and to do our part to build a strong, successful future for Canada."
CIBC is the Official Bank of the Canadian Hockey League, its 3 regional leagues, and 23 teams across Canada, including the Owen Sound Attack.
