Bulldogs Come up a Goal Short in Niagara
December 13, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brantford Bulldogs News Release
A valiant 3rd period comeback came up just a bit short as the Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision Thursday night to the Niagara IceDogs at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines.
The IceDogs were the first on the board just over a minute into the game but, 13 seconds later Navrin Mutter (4) took advantage of a juicy rebound to tie the game 1-1. Niagara scored two more before the end of the period, one on a delayed penalty call, the other on a power-play, to make it 3-1.
There was no scoring in the 2nd period and the IceDogs looked like they were going to turn the game into a rout when they scored early in the 3rd to make it 4-1. However, the Bulldogs began the comeback when on the power-play, Matthew Strome (13) scored his 100th career OHL goal to make it 4-2 followed by another power-play goal from Tim Fleisher (5) at 8:32 making it a one goal hockey game. It was all Hamilton down the stretch, but Niagara goalie Stephen Dhillon came up with some big save including robbing Matthew Strome in the dying seconds to preserve the IceDogs 4-3 win.
Arthur Kayliev recorded 1 assist in his 100th career OHL game.
Bulldogs, Brandon Saigeon extended his point streak to 9 games with an assist while Ice Dogs Jason Robertson extended his point streak to 16 games with an assist of his own.
Niagara outshot Hamilton 40-36.
Niagara goal scorers were Ivan Lodnia (10, 11), Ben Jones (13) and Phillip Tomasimo (12).
3 STARS:
1) Ivan Lodnia (NIA)
2) Nicolas Mattinen (HAM)
3) Phillip Tomasino (NIA)
The Bulldogs play in Oshawa Friday night before returning home Saturday December 15th to take on Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game at FirstOntario Centre at 3:30 pm.
