Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

IDAHO FALLS, ID -- The Chukars scored in each of the first four innings, and built a 7-2 lead. The Raptors roared back and leapt in front. Idaho Falls ninth inning threat ends without a run in a tough 10-7 loss.

The Chukars (20-20, 0-2) offense had no problem cranking into gear in the first four innings. In three of the first four innings, the leadoff man reached base and scored. Brandon Downes began the home half of the first inning with a triple, and he scored on a sacrifice fly. Idaho Falls scored one run off of Jon Richy in each of the first four innings.

The Greybirds busted out for four runs in the fourth. Ogden (17-23, 2-0) put in Trevor Oaks to began the frame, and Idaho Falls tagged him for five straight hits. Corey Toups, Samir Duenez, and Ryan O'Hearn tallied three straight run scoring singles. Robert Pehl would add another run scoring single for the Chukars, who led 7-2.

Oaks (2-0) would settle down once his team's offense got the Raptors back in the game. In the top of the fifth, Torey Deshazier retired the first batter, and struck out Devin Ahart, but the leadoff hitter reached on a wild pitch. The next two hitters reached base to load the bases for Julian Leon. The catcher smacked a bases clearing double to right center. Leon would later score on a sacrifice fly to cap off a four run inning.

The Raptors took the lead in the seventh off of Emilio Ogando (1-1). Ivan Vela roped a two run double to left field to give Ogden a 8-7 lead. Another double by Andrew Godbold in the ninth frame increased the margin to 10-7.

Idaho Falls had just two hits after the fourth inning. One of those tallies came in the ninth, where the Greybirds loaded the bases. Brandon Thomasson lined a ball into the back of pitcher AJ Venegas, who picked it up off the bounce and threw it first for the final out. The Chukars stranded 14 men on base.

The Chukars and the Raptors conclude the two game series at Melaleuca Field tomorrow. Bryan Brickhouse is scheduled to throw for Idaho Falls.
