Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

In a reversal of fortunes from Monday night's victory, it was the Chukars who committed five errors and allowed the Ogden Raptors to score four unearned runs in a 6-3 loss at Lindquist Field Tuesday night.

A back and fourth game that was filled with nothing but one-run innings until the 8th saw the Raptors pick up unearned tallies in the first, fifth, and twice in the eighth. The Chukars also benefited from an unearned run in the second.

The Chukars briefly held a 2-1 lead in the top of the third and had a chance to go ahead in both the sixth and seventh, but first baseman Rainier Bello grounded out with a runner at second and shortstop Adalberto Mondesi struck out with two men in scoring position to leave the door open for Ogden.

The Raptors wouldn't miss the opportunity, scoring a run in the seventh to retake the lead at 4-3 and taking on two more unearned runs in the eighth to pull away.

Ogden kicked off the scoring and the Chukars started the errors right off the bat in the first, with the Raptors scoring once thanks to an error from Mondesi to take a 1-0 lead.

The Chukars would respond with their lone unearned tally in the second, with left fielder Nick Cuckovich reaching on an error from Ogden shortstop Darnell Sweeney, and eventually coming in to score on an RBI double from Bello.

Idaho Falls would take their 2-1 lead in the third thanks to a leadoff double from second baseman Carlos Garcia and a wild pitch from Raptors pitcher Carlos De Aza. Following an earned run in the third and another unearned mark in the fifth to go up 3-2, the Chukars would rally for the last time with a run in the sixth to re-tie the game at 3-3. The two-out rally started with a double from Cuckovich, who was driven in one batter later on an RBI double from Jin-Ho Shin.

Shin would finish the night 1-3 with a double and an RBI, while Bello went 2-4 with a double and one RBI.

Idaho Falls pitcher Sam Selman made his first start of the season in the loss, with the 2nd Round pick out of Vanderbilt lasting just 2.2 innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and three strikeouts in a pitch-count abbreviated start. Reliever Chase Hentges (0-1) took the loss for Idaho Falls after allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts over one inning pitched. Ogden reliever Craig Stem (1-0) earned the win while Sawil Gonzalez (2) got the save after a perfect ninth.

The Chukars (5-4) drop to two game back of the first place Raptors (7-2) with the loss. The two clubs will play the rubber match of the three game series Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
