Chukars Game Notes: at Ogden

LAST GAME: Chukars starting pitcher Alec Mills was taken off the hook thanks to five Chukars runs in the first three innings in a 7-6 win. Aided by Rockies errors each of those innings, Idaho Falls took advantage by hitting three sacrifice flies to plate three of those runs. Brandon Thomasson tallied an RBI in the first. It was the only hit that drove in a run. Zach Lavvorn began the ninth inning, but allowed a leadoff double. After he allowed another double to Renaldo Jenkins, he was removed from the game. The right-hander pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, while striking out five. Nick Green recorded the final out for the Greybirds first series win.

ROSTER TWEAKS: Idaho Falls has made a couple of roster moves since the beginning of the season. First, infielder Logan Davis was promoted to Triple-A Omaha, after playing in two games with the Chukars. Logan is the son of Greybirds pitching coach, and Cy Young Award Winner Mark Davis. Idaho Falls added catcher Parker Morin to the group. Parker spent the 2012 season with the Chukars, playing in more than 50 games. To make room on the roster, the Royals released outfielder Devon Torrence, the former Ohio State and NFL football player. Also, outfielder Alexis Rivera was just promoted to Lexington.

POSITIVE PITCHING: The Chukars won their first series of the season thanks to some great pitching. Each game against Grand Junction that was won by Idaho Falls had a pitching star. Most recently, Zach Lavvorn pitched 6.2 innings out the bullpen. The Chukars had four players combine for a shutout in game two of the series. Game one featured Torey Deshazier going the final five innings out the bullpen, picking up his first won.

OGDEN BLUES: Ogden comes in as the coldest team in the Pioneer League, having lost six games in a row. Grand Junction swept them in a two game series, and Orem did the same in a four game set. During the streak, the Rockies have allowed 5 or more runs in every game.

SEVEN STRAIGHT?: Yes, Ogden and Idaho Falls will play seven straight games. The last time the Chukars played the same team 7 times in a row was Casper in August '11.
