Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

IDAHO FALLS, ID -- For the fourth straight day, a rain delay stopped the Chukars and Rockies. For the first time in four days, the teams finished all the scheduled innings for the day. The Greybirds held on for a 13-1 victory in the continuation of a suspended game, and took game two 2-1.

Idaho Falls (33-30, 13-12) began today's action already up 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning, after plating seven runs in the first frame yesterday. The Chukars ballooned that lead, thanks in large part to Ryan O'Hearn's three run home run in the fourth inning. The Sam Houston State product finished with an Idaho Falls season high 5 RBIs. His college teammate Corey Toups had three hits, including a run scoring double in the sixth inning.

Jake Newberry mowed through the Rockies (39-24, 16-9) in three innings of yesterday's action, and Matt Strahm picked up right where he left off. The left-hander went three innings allowing just one run en route to his first win of the season.

Idaho Falls kept the runs coming in game two, putting up a tally in the first two innings and holding on for a 2-1 win. Samir Duenez got the Chuakrs on the board with a sacrifice fly that scored Luis Valenzuela. Desmond Henry scored in the second inning on a throwing error on Luis Jean.

The pitching shined for the Greybirds in game two. Torey Deshazier got the start and was on his game for the second straight outing. The right-hander went five scoreless, bringing his scoreless inning streak to 10.2 innings. He struck out seven batters through those five frames. Sam Lewis allowed a home run in the sixth, and dealt with the tying run on third base with nobody out in the seventh. Lewis stuck out both Luis Jean and Wes Rogers, and got Omar Carrizales to ground out to end the ballgame.

The Chukars are currently three games back of the Rockies with 13 games left to play. Grand Junction and Idaho Falls split their 16 games this season. The Greybirds play the first of eight games in a row against the Orem Owlz tomorrow.
