Wausau Woodchucks News Release
After Monday night's shutout against the Lakeshore Chinooks, the Wisconsin Woodchucks looked to once again cleanup, and move up in the ranks of the Northwoods South Division. This one was a barnburner however, with four lead changes throughout the game the Woodchucks kept the crowd on their toes. However, the Chinooks were too much for the Woodchucks Tuesday night taking the 8-7 win.
The Chinooks got off to a fast start with a solo home run coming in the first inning by second basemen Ty Young.
The Woodchucks were quick to answer with three consecutive singles to score center fielder Brooks Braga. J.D. Davis's single would be enough to get the RBI to tie the game at one a piece after one inning of play.
The Chinooks grabbed another run in the fourth inning by a throwing error on catcher, Nate Irving sending Zack Granite home to post the 2-1 lead.
The Chinooks were not done. With bases loaded "ËChucks reliever Jackson Lowery plunked catcher, Nate Ruzich to score their third run of the game. Another run walked in as Lowery allowed his second walk of the inning at the wrong time with bases still loaded. One after the other, the walks rained in with another stroll to first to make it a 5-1 game.
Finally after nine batters, Lowery ended the inning with pop ups to put an end to the seventh inning.
The Woodchucks trailed by four going into the bottom of the seventh, until Gage Green changed it, hitting a fly ball to deep center field, scoring Jake Peter on a RBI double. The score turned to 5-2.
J.D. Davis was the next batter, and he doubled to right field scoring Gage Green to make it a 5-3 game, as the Woodchucks had a comeback in the process with back-to-back RBI doubles.
Still in the seventh inning, the Woodchucks came through clutch with a three run homerun by newcomer Madison Carter on his debut, to regain the 6-5 lead over the Lakeshore Chinooks, overcoming a 5-1 deficit.
However, with pitching issues, the "ËChucks gave up the lead in the eighth with a two RBI single with bases loaded to once again give up the lead 7-6. A sacrifice fly scored another Chinooks run, however, Forrest Chadwick was caught rounding third on a Brooks Braga error, and thrown out at home for a double play to end the three run comeback inning.
These two teams were battling going into the late innings, as the Woodchucks had a turn to try to take the lead. Chinooks first basemen errored on a slow roller to score Jake Peter to knock on the Chinooks door once again. The Woodchucks would put up one on the board to minimize the lead to one going into the ninth inning.
The Woodchucks ended the game on two strikeouts, and a ground out to capture the Chinooks win, 8-7.
The Woodchucks will be back in action Wednesday for the third game of the series with the Lakeshore Chinooks, and then enter a three game series against the Battle Creek Bombers Friday.
