Madison Mallards News Release
Green Bay, WI - June 19, 2012. More great starting pitching from the Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-9), this time from right-hander Bryce Bellin (Minnesota State)), kept the Madison Mallards (9-12) off of the scoreboard and allowed the Bullfrogs to run away with a 5-0 win over the Mallards. The win secured the Bullfrogs a two game advantage in their three game series with the Mallards.
Both teams were kept off of the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when Bullfrogs center fielder David Armendariz (Cal Poly) homered off of Mallards starter Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) to give the Bullfrogs a 1-0 advantage. The Bullfrogs would add on two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by catcher Mike Fischer (Columbia) and left fielder Brooks Orton (Texas State).
The Bullfrogs would get a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning on a RBI double by second baseman Nick Stein (Coe College) to score shortstop Jason McMurray (Notre Dame), and an RBI single by designated hitter Clayton Eslick (Gonzaga) to score Orton.
Foss (1-2) picked up his second straight loss, after giving up three runs in the fifth inning. Despite the loss Foss was still fanning hitters at an impressive clip, picking up eight strikeouts on the night.
Bellin (1-2) continued his impressive start to the year, giving up no runs in 7.0 innings of work. So far in 2012 he has only allowed one earned run, lowering himself down to a 0.52 ERA in his third start of the season.
Mallards third baseman Jose Trevino (Oral Roberts) continued to heat up, snagging a double and extending his hit streak to four in games he has started.
The Mallards offense will be happy to be getting out of Green Bay, having not scored at Joannes Stadium in 25.0 innings.
After tonight's game the Mallards will return to the "Duck Pond" on Wednesday June 20th to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs. That night will be Oscar Mayer Appreciation Night at the ballpark, featuring Weiner dog races.
The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
