Ottawa Champions News Release

Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Champions completed their nine game home stand with a 5-2 victory over the Trois-Rivieres Aigles thanks to a dominant pitching performance from starter Austin Chrismon.

In nine complete innings, he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

"It was an outstanding performance from Austin," said manager Hal Lanier in a post-game interview. "He had great stuff throughout the entire game."

After dropping the first two games, the Aigles got off to a fast start.

A lead-off single, stolen base, error and walk put runners on the corners with no outs. After a quick strike out, Aigle's Steve Brown hit an RBI single to score the first run of the night.

The Champions tied the game in the third inning.

Newly acquired outfielder Derrick Pyles made a great first impression on his new team, coming up with the RBI single which tied the game at 1-1.

"My goal is still to win a championship," said Pyles. "I still have a dream to play in the big leagues."

Former member of the Quebec Capitale, Pyles brings an impressive .375 batting average with two homeruns and nine RBI in 20 games.

"He's a quality hitter," said Lanier. "He's going to be a great addition to our ball club.

"I try to be a flexible hitter," said Pyles. "I try to come up with the hit that the situation requires."

Ottawa was able to break through and take the lead in the fifth.

After loading the bases with no outs, the Champions should have gotten runs. Three back-to-back hits loaded the bases for Danny Grauer who walked and got the only RBI of the inning.

Aigles starting pitcher Ryan Bollinger limited the damage. In five and a third innings, Bollinger gave up four earned runs on eleven hits with seven strikeouts.

After the walk, Bollinger got a line drive to the second basemen, followed by two strike outs which ended the inning with the bases loaded and a score of 2-1.

Kenny Bryant came up with the big hit in the sixth. With runners on first and second, Bryant hit a triple, clearing the bases and scored two runs to put the Champions up 4-1.

Despite a solo home run by Aigles right fielder Javier Herrera in the eighth, Ottawa held on for the 5-2 win.

The Ottawa Champions hit the road tomorrow for one series against the New Jersey Jackals before they return for a seven game home stand. The Champions send Laetten Galbraith (0-3, 3.07 ERA) to the mound in search of his first victory of the season.
